Our program covers all facets of health including structured coaching, nutrition, and of course we offer the best atmosphere and community in the entire area. Thats why we don’t ask you to SIGN A CONTRACT. We are confident that your results will keep you coming back.

I have been involved in athletics my entire life. From being a multi-sport collegiate athlete, to participating in a number of Ironman 70.3 and Olympic Distance Triathlons. I have seen, and tried, just about every strength and conditioning program out there; some good, most bad. In 2007 a friend introduced me to Crossfit, and soon realized that no matter what I was training for, this was the optimal program for me; I found my new sport. Doing Crossfit, coupled with a good diet, has gotten me into the best shape of my life, reaching a physical performance level I didn't think possible.  I wanted to open a gym to share my passion for the sport, to have a place where friends can come to workout, play loud music, have fun, crack jokes, get fit and look good. Relative to the life of Crossfit, Ive been in the game almost since the beginning. I have finished in the top 100 in the CF Open numerous times, made it to Regionals and hope to one day make it to the games.

Throughout my entire life I have been involved with athletics and coaching in some way or another. Since my competitive athletic career ended (or so I thought), my only physical activity was at a globo gym where I was not satisfied with the results I was getting.  In 2011, a college buddy of mine introduced me to Crossfit where I started in San Francisco. I have never looked back. Crossfit is a perfect fit for me considering my competitive nature and career choice in the Fire Service. My future with Crossfit includes sharing what I know, to as many people as I can and making it to Crossfit Regions and probably further someday.

Bio: I grew up on the Island of Maui where water sports were an essential aspect of my life. Surfing in competitions at an early age gave me the competitive drive I have today;whether I was surfing against girls my age and older or even against the boys, I always wanted to be the best. I played sports in High School like Volleyball, Swimming and Water polo and I was on the Surf Team. After High School I kept somewhat active while going to The Fashion Institute in LA.  I moved to Costa Mesa about 3 years ago and heard about CrossFit through a friend who had moved out from Hawaii as well. I didn’t really try it until my roommate at the time tried it out and loved it and soon after pushed me to try CrossFit at the same box. Like most people walking in to a CrossFit box, I was intimidated and scared but wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I did my first “WOD” and I immediately fell in love with it. I liked the fact that I didn’t have to come up with a workout on my own, and my coaches never let me slack off which is what I knew I’d been doing at the local 24 Hour Fitness.  CrossFit gave me an outlet for that competitive drive once again and the motivation to try every day to become a better athlete and coach.

 

 Coach - Jake Shaw:

I was fortunate enough to be born in beautiful sunny southern California where he grew up with his four sister and one brother. Playing sports from an early age ignited his passion for exercise. After high school Jake spent four years working at 24hour fitness where he gained valuable knowledge. Looking for something new he left 24hr and started a career as a car sales man. Two years of sitting on a car lot and eating cheap foods took its toll in the form of a thirty five lb. weight gain. Having spent years in the fitness industry Jake reached out to one of his friends who introduced him to crossfit. It was love at first WOD. Jake then had the privilege of spending the next four years working under a nationally ranked olympic lifting coach. Walking to the gym up hill in the snow both ways! Within that time he realized his real passion was helping people change their lives through nutrition. Through schooling and much trial and error he began to develop the Shamba Nutrition program. Now six years later you will most likely find Jake either coaching class, lifting weights or talking nutrition and probably hanging out with his dog Olive.
